COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT)

BE A CIT AT CAMP JAMISON!

Our Counselor In Training (CIT) program is intentional about strengthening the campers leadership and communication skills while learning to work with younger children. We would like our CIT’s to learn professionalism and a great work ethic in order to have an enjoyable and educational summer experience.

We have two levels of CITs:

The first level, CIT 1, is for youth who are 14 years old and entering their sophomore year of high school. The fee for the week is $250.

The second level, CIT 2, is for youths who have previously completed the CIT 1 program, but are not yet ready to be a Junior Counselor. The fee for the week is $200.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be on time
  • Follow directions
  • Conduct yourself in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Interact respectfully with campers and staff
  • Be enthusiastic
  • Be respectful and friendly
  • Set a good example

A CIT MUST HAVE:

  • Plenty of patience
  • A cooperative attitude
  • An open mind
  • Be flexible
  • Lots of energy

At all times, the CIT is a camper, a program participant and is expected to adhere to the guidelines of our camp program and camp leaders’ direction.

WEEKLY PLAN:

Placements: CITs will be given a placement for the week; the counselor that a CIT is assigned to will have jobs for the CIT to do for them and with them throughout the day. While it is important for CITs to participate in all activities, remember that our number one goal is for campers to enjoy themselves! As a CIT the primary responsibility is to help the counselor.

Evening Meeting: This meeting will occur daily and will be held by the CIT Director. They will review the progress of the day and to set goals for the following day.

CIT Character Development/Activity: Together CITs will plan and implement one activity for the campers. CITs will have a leadership role during this time. They will be responsible for explaining the activity and helping counselors and campers to participate and have fun!

Off campus trip: CIT Is only will be able to participate in one off campgrounds trip that will build confidence and increase team-building skills.

Evaluation: At the end of the week the CIT Director will evaluate all CIT Is on their performance and they will possibly be invited to be a Junior Counselor or a CIT II the following summer. CIT IIs will also be evaluated.
